The cost of cable TV or satellite subscription has become very prohibitive for many in these times of economic uncertainty. Moreover, once you commit to cable or satellite, it's a ongoing monthly expense which gnaws away at your monthly savings.

The good news is that spending such money for watching TV is not necessary anymore in this technologically savvy age. That is because you have the option now of watching tv online.

There are a large number of choices available to watch tv on your computer. You can see movies on your PC without paying for premium channels like HBO or Showtime or paying yet another monthly fee to services such as Netflix. You can watch shows from several different countries and in different languages on your computer! And you can watch sports, such as tennis matches, football games, or basketball games, right on your computer.

Some of these options rely on watching previously uploaded shows online. For instance, manyusers upload videos of TV shows, etc. onto sites such as Youtube. There are, however, many issues with these options. First, there is always a time delay. So if you really want to watch something live, like a football game, which loses a lot of its meaning when you can't watch it live, this choice is not a suitable one. Moreover, the quality of such options depends upon the specific clip uploaded by a user, and may not be good at all.

Other ways of watching tv online include downloading software to your computer which allows you to watch on your PC. Some of these require a small single payment, which certainly beats recurring cable charges! Depending on which software you download, the coverage of the shows you get may be quite varied, and may often include foreign channels as well. One apparently popular software I have found in this realm, which is often used to watch sports events, but can also be used for watching a variety of other shows, as well as several foreign channels is a great choice for watching TV on your computer.

Several of the popular networks such as NBC, ABC etc. also have several shows available online. However, what these networks offer is naturally limited to the shows on that specific network. Moreover, these networks mostly offer only a few recent episodes of each show, and so are limited in that way as well.

While there are several options for watching tv without cable, many of these are not good choices. Some of these are even known to infect your computer with viruses. So you have to be careful when you figure out what method you use to watch tv on your computer.
