Free to Air Satellite is a relatively new term regarding free satellite television reception. FTA as it is sometimes called, is any one of a number of free services delivering television, music, movies, radio and news which is broadcast in an unencrypted form of satellite. There is no contract and no monthly bill.

It is a mystery to most people that free satellite tv actually exists or is offered legal anywhere. In fact, in some areas, free satellite and other types of broadcasting is mandated by the government. Emergency broadcasting is required in all regions to alert the public in case of disaster or other emergency.

The requirements for free to air satellite are a satellite dish and a receiver. Set up the dish, connect the signal to the receiver and access hundreds of channels -- that's it. It really is a quick and easy set up; and, there are many companies providing packages that include the dish and the receiver. Like many families, you may already have a satellite and a monthly bill! However, you may not be getting everything you want. You can purchase a setup and access a foreign lanuage satellite, for example.

Discussing satellites is beyond the scope of this article. Satellites are owned by government and/or various groups, companies and organizations around the world. Some are free to air satellites and others are encrypted satellite tv channel providers. Each and every country has its own governing laws regarding broadcasting.

You might want to look into another form of getting free cable-type television in your home. It is the television to personal computer (or laptop) connection. There is a small one-time download fee that is very simple. Your computer can then be connected to your flatscreen tv and you can receive virtually all of your favorite channels. With these offers comes technical assistance and up-to-date program guides.
