Add some mystery and magic to your wedding, in the truest sense, by hiring a professional wedding magician for the reception. More and more couples are turning to illusionists and memory entertainers to provide an extra element to their guests' entertainment after the marriage ceremony. It's a great way to delight a crowd and bring people together.

During the post wedding celebrations, there are often lulls. Maybe you're having the photographs taken, cutting the cake or still in the receiving line. The bridal couple are often kept very busy, so it's great to have an entertainer to amuse your guests, whether they're young or old. You'll find kids can get bored easily, and older guests may not want to dance. This is when a magician can keep people entranced.

A great magician will tour the tables, doing card tricks and simple magic that will wow all who attend. He or she should pay personal attention to each and every guest, and many will perform a special trick for the happy couple. These are called table magicians and the magic is not about sawing people in half and holds no risk at all.

Other entertainers perform amazing memory acts. They will need a full guest list, the table plan and some anecdotes about selected people in advance. The laughter and surprise is fantastic: as someone no-one has ever met before identifies every person present, cracking jokes about some. So determine exactly what your entertainer specializes in, and choose what suits the audience best.

Magicians provide a great alternative type of entertainment. Usually, they will perform for around two hours, during a wedding banquet or later in the evening. They shouldn't dominate events, but work round the speeches, the toasts and the other entertainers like a band or the disco. Choose someone experienced who knows how weddings work, and when to stand in the background.

The cost of magicians varies considerably. You might pay only small fee for two hours of performance. This depends on your location, any travel needed and of course on the type of magician. Be suspicious of quotes that fall beyond the average price range. If you're quoted less than the going rate, you could be employing a newcomer to wedding entertainment, or a weekend amateur. The famous celebrity entertainers will charge over the going fee.

Try for personal recommendations and testimonials when you choose an entertainer. If you cannot get those, check websites and watch videos, but above all interview the person. Find out just what they'll do and check it matches what you're looking for. Then, you'll have a wedding magician to charm all the guests, giving them an experience to remember.
