From here the writers go through the whole ordeal of the kidnapping pointing out the reasons for the kidnapping. Later it is found out that the ploy was so as to have the congressman challenge the president and hopefully win a spot.
There is also the wife who hates the political scenes and who is not present at the time of the kidnapping.
