Different Nail Salon Ventilation Systems

A nail salon ventilation system is installed to purify the air inside a beauty shop. It removes contaminants that come from different shop products. These products include polish, polish removers, and materials for extensions. Beauty shops and spas are venues where clients visit to find comfort, relaxation, and pampering. Purifying the aeration not only benefits the client but most of all, provides a healthy working environment for shop workers.

Aside from vapors, products that include polishes, tip glues for extensions, and quick drying sprays can produce harmful vapors and bacteria. Inhaling the circulating contaminants could result to irritation of the nose, throat, eyes, and the skin. A person exposed to these contaminants can also experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, inability for concentration, fatigue, and other effects because of the chemical pollutants that have entered the bloodstream.

To maintain the health of shop workers, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has formulated guidelines that nail salon ventilation systems should be in place in every shop. The guidelines were updated in March 2007. It includes specific instructions on the circulation requirements on how to lessen the chances of workers in inhaling harmful chemicals.

To effectively protect worker's health, beauty spas and beauty shops are required to install general or local circulator in work tables and in all the rooms inside the business. These ventilators should be effective in capturing fumes and odor produced by different body care procedures. There should also be a process in place that can efficiently remove suffocating store air and exchange it with fresher outside air regularly.

The EPA guidelines further specified that every work table should have its own exhaust vent, a ceiling or wall-mounted nail salon ventilation placed above every work table. A combination of both is preferred for better circulation. These two kinds of circulators has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Most spas, to cut costs, often chose to install only a general circulator. However, this kind of system is not effective in removing all contaminants. Rather, it only dilutes the pollutants to safe levels. This general process of aeration is recommended to use in schools, offices, and other industries that does not give off large volumes of contaminants.

A heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is a good example of a general circulator for beauty shops. The HVAC system must be able to supply the adequate outside air and maintain good aeration quality inside the shop. The beauty shop should have its independent circulation system to avoid spreading harmful contaminants to adjacent businesses.

Localized nail salon ventilation is more effective in efficiently capturing fumes. It can prevent it from polluting the air inside the store. An exhaust fan is attached in every work table to capture fumes the moment it is produced and stops it from getting into circulation. Local ventilator in work table consists of an exhaust fan attached to a duct. Circulators in work stations fitted with filters in addition to the exhaust fans are also available. These types of tables enables air cleansing and has the capability to circulate clean aeration back into the store.

To fully protect the workers and clients, both kinds of circulation is recommended. However, this is not always possible. In this case, a well-maintained and properly installed general system can act as the nail salon ventilation process and will be sufficient in protecting clients and workers.
