Karan Johar's Student of the Year is just around the corner, and the team has been creating quite the buzz with the movie's promotional events kicking off. The film stars three fresh-faces, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, all of who will be making their first big screen appearances with the Student of the Year. The film has given movie-buffs a lot to talk about right since Karan Johar uploaded the first-look poster on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

According to Karan Johar, the future of these promising new actors depends on him and his upcoming film's box office performance. "The film is a big responsibility on Dharma Production's shoulders and mine. We are launching the career of three new faces through this film - Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra. All of them are very promising and talented. So, we as a production house have to make sure that we stand up to the expectation of all," said Karan a while ago. The film, like Karan Johar's previous ventures, is a high-budget project that's expected to take the box-office by storm. Glamorously entertaining and just as extravagant, the film's first trailer gave movie-buffs a peak at just what to expect.

And now, Dubai has flung its doors open, welcoming home the Student of the Year team. As part of their promotional activities in Dubai, Karan Johar, Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt have attended a press conference. "In a star-ridden industry such as ours, launching new talents on such a large scale is always a risk. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have never felt more proud," said Karan at the press conference. The director, known to have roped in the biggest names in the industry for his previous films, is working with newcomers for the first time.

This is also his first film without his best friend and lucky charm Shah Rukh Khan. When asked if he seeks to compete with Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar went on to add "I can only compete with equals. I am not equal to Shah Rukh ... His brand power and superiority as an individual is humungous." Shah Rukh Khan has starred in all of Karan's films including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name Is Khan. "I don't think any filmmaker in India is deluded to think that he is in par with any movie star, let alone Shah Rukh Khan. Perhaps that's the reason why we share such a beautiful bond. We always knew that he was the larger superstar. I need him more than he can ever need me," said Karan Johar.

The upcoming Student of the Year by Karan Johar is one of 2012's most anticipated films. With Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt playing the roles of three students in a high-class school, this film is essentially a coming-of-age campus romance. The film will release on the 19th of October, 2012.
